I couldn't find the perfect place to pose this question, so I thought this would be the safest place to ask without causing too much trouble.
On the website http://www.kerrywhistles.com in the downloads section, the video of Phil Hardy playing what I suppose to be a whistle.
Is that what it is, a whistle? If so, can someone give an educated guess as to what key it is? It sounds beautiful to me.
I know it's not a bagpipe and that this is a forum for pipers, but I really don't have anyone else to ask.
I'd like to pick up an inexpensive whistle, but the ones I have heard are keyed to high for my heart to really enjoy.
Remember I'm not an expert, nor a competitor, just an enthusiast of great sounding music. If this question is out of line I ask that it be deleted. Thank you.

I took too long to download the video, so I stopped it after a while. I do think that what you heard was a Whistle. You might try a Susato Low G or Low D whistle. Susatos are lower on the price scale, and made from Delrin. I got one from a local Whistle MAker, Mack Hoover. HE saw me struggling with the high pitch whistles, particularly with his whistles which are extremely mellow... which is to say they take way less air than I was blowing into it. HE Gave me the Susato Low G, becuase it takes way too much air for his taste.

It is a Low D whistle. If you want to know more about them, you can go to either/both of these sites:
www.chiffandfipple.com (http://www.chiffandfipple.com)
www.sessioneer.com (http://www.sessioneer.com)

WARNING: Buying one whistle can lead to another, and then you've got a case of WOA on your hands. It can also lead down the DARK PATH to the Uilleann pipes

I believe too that it is a Low D. However, I doubt Phil is playing a Susato...most likely he is playing one of his own make.
