Moscow Military Tattoo - Red Square

Not sure if here or the beer tent is the place for this, but decided to put it here!

Just back from a unique event in Red Square in Moscow - the Moscow Military Tattoo or "Kremlin Zoria", the first of it's kind.

Great involvement from the Edinburgh Tattoo organisers to help them get this inaugural event up and running.

A fantastic experience filled with many firsts and great visual and aural memories! Playing on Red Square, marching out of the Kremlin - playing in a massed band of 304!!!

Twas a great time and definitely the trip of a lifetime for me. When I joined the CF in 1983, the last place on earth I figured I'd be parading was Red Square...times they have a changed.

hello ev'ryone, I'm from Saint-Petersburg, Russia, I saw the tattoo closing ceremony on tv and I 'm still under this impression - I'm fascinated with Pipes and Drums, and I must say it was the most beautiful part of the whole ceremony) esp Amazing Grace playes by so many!!!! never've heard anything like this! thank you so much for your participation in the parade - you made it unbelievably beautiful! I'd love to go to Moscow next year and see this again :)
PS - lotsa people here say the same, i'm not the only one!!!

hello dreamdancer - you may not have to go far next time - in addition to very strong indications that there will be future events like this, we heard that there was talk of holding a future event in St Petersburg - possibly next time to 'rotate' the event to a couple of venues in Russia.

Really looking forward to seeing the whole show if it becomes available on DVD as we only got to see bits and pieces at rehearsals and for the actual shows, were stuck inside the kremlin waiting for our turn to march out.

Looking at some youtube videos it certainly seems the crowd appreciated the pipes and drums more (we were also told this numerous times by people as we walked back to our buses after the shows).

wow! great news, thank you m2piper! it would be wonderful to see Pipes and Drums in Saint-Pete :) actually we have a military parade - in spring, on the main street, but of course - no bagpipers, only russians.

sorry, no. His name is Chris McLeod. I saw another Australian interviewed on the other Russia Today video but thet was Roy Hamilton from Western Australia Police Pipes (although identifed as Rob I think on the video and also as a piper when he's a drummer!).

thanks again Rita - a fantastic effort to trawl for all those links. In the 2nd last link (dennismusic) I can see myself briefly in front of the bass drummer in the early part of the video (can't tell you exactly where in time as I can't watch the video on my work computer - yes, am I'm at work now.....shhhhhhh!)

The Second Kremlin Zoria Festival will be held in Moscow on September 11-14 2008. It is dedicated to a remarkable jubilee - 325 years of the oldest and proudest Guards Regiments of Russia, Preobrazhensky and Semionovsky, and to the Russian Imperial Guard as a whole.
Accordingly, this theme will dominate the concept and music programme of the Second Festival, where the legacy of our Guards (marches, signals, songs, dances etc.) will be vividly recreated.

Invitations for the Second Festival were sent to famous Guard and army units and bands from all over the world. Distinguished participants from Great Britain, Austria, France, China, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Oman and Trinidad & Tobago have already promised to come to Moscow, and negotiations are under way with some other countries.
