I've listened several times now to Jim's sound files of him playing his Atherton MacDougall reproductions. Just stunning! Even if you're not interested in him showing off the bagpipe, just the music itself is well worth the visit. The 6/8 is one of the best I've ever heard, especially for sound quality. (And I'm an old John D. Burgess fan!) And it's a great learning experience to follow along the music on the ground to "Lament for the Children." Hearing the nuanced expression of different world-class players is always fascinating! They can be heard on his web page here. (http://www.piping.on.ca/browseproducts.asp?catID=147)

But I've already heard from some that the sound of the drones doesn't much come through. I've also found that to be so when played through ordinary computer speakers. I use a set of Bose earbuds connected to a Mac Titanium PowerBook Pro. Do yourself a treat and listen through quality earphones or earbuds. The sound just swells and blends and virtually tugs at your soul!

Keep open the date of July 19th for my drone party! Despite my affection for these pipes, I assure you that there will be NO agenda other than to have a great time, listen to lots of different set-ups, eat well, drink much and learn a lot about different people's tone and how they get it. I'll get more info up when I get a downloadable flyer made. Meanwhile, check out Jim's page and his piping! He's very approachable - ask him about what he's using!

Ha! As I was just recently reminded..."They didn't just hand this guy a Gold Medal!"
