I read in different threads about the drone bore size (large bore or small bore) and still don't understand the end difference. Does bore size (large or small) contribute to volume of the drones (i.e. large is louder or the opposite if that is true)?. Does one create tenor dominate or bass dominate drones? Does one (large or small) create different harmonics?
From my limited experiece with four different styles of drone reeds on the same drones I can get some of the characeristic changes noted above (louder or softer, more tenor or more base, better harmonics) using different droe reeds. So how does bore size fit into the overall equation?

It's not just bores. It's tuning chambers, bells, bushes, stocks, and lengths. Using the BDF "search" feature you can find answers to all your questions. John Henderson started a thread about this very topic a while back. You can pull up his posts.

Expanding on what Mark said, all those parts in each drone work together as a system. I had the bore in the bottom section of my bass drone enlarged just a little bit. As a result, my bass drone strikes in much better. It might be more stable and more air-efficient, too, and it might be a bit more pronounced. I'm not 100% certain about any of those, but it definitely strikes in better.

Yes, what bob864 said. Every single dimension of the drone will effect the sound, volume and harmonics. It's quite interesting really just how subtle a change can make such a big difference in the resulting tone.

I read the thread on bores that Mark referred to, and though the numbers can be numbing, it looks like most of the difference can be seen in the bass drone - more air efficient, easier strike-ins, more stable and more volume. Am I reading this correctly?

Here is the start of the thread on bore sizes - little bits of knowledge throughout the thread.

At least I think I posted this right.

Can't find the John Henderson thread referred to despite several searches ...can anyone help with a link please
Here's the Drone Design thread I started a while back. (http://forums.bobdunsire.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5528&page=0&fpart=1)
