Howdy! I recently found myself in ownership of a set of bagpipees, but I have no clue to the make or model. The pipes sound excellent, and the whole kit is in excellent condition, leading me t believe that the pipes are somewhat new. I looked over the entire set, and the only hint to the maker was a label for "L&M highland outfitters" which I believe is just for the bag.
I heard someone say that it was a "dunbar", which leads me to believe that they might be this: http://www.dunbarbagpipes.com/P3_Full_Imitation_Ivory-P3a_Polypenco_Bagpipes.html

Any help would be greatly appreicated.
Thanks!

Those cord beads are distinctly Gibson.

Gibson for sure. Can't identify the foot though.

It doesn't seem to be a full-sized foot. Maybe a 3/4 sized? I don't think they make "Lovat" or "Reel-sized" feet in the US. At least not in Texas.

Thanks for the help. I don't know anything else about the foot, would any other pictures help to identify it?

Is there any name stamped on it? Hanes? Gold-Toe?

The only thing I could find stamped anywhere on the set is "dunbar" on the top of the chanter.

No, I meant stamped on the foot!

Actually, you have a nice combo. Gibson pipes are based on a MacDougall spec. A kind of sound of which I am particularly fond! And Dunbar makes a good chanter - I have one myself. (I wouldn't be surprised though if some earlier owner kept the Gibson chanter. I like those especially well!) Fortunate find!

The foot should be stamped in the sock guide.

I'm rather new to bagpipes (I'm a drummer, if it isn't obvious), and these terms are somewhat confusing. Where on the bagpipe is the foot?

Billybob, we're just yankin' ya! Since the pipes were easy enough to spot, we're joking about identifying the foot - the human foot - in the first pic. The Maker might be a given, but the present owner is obscure!

:p

Didn't your instructor teach you not to confuse the drummers? It's hard enough already keeping 4/4 time...

I thought we pipers were guilty of not keeping time!

 We're only accused of not listening to the drummers!!

Alright, since I now know the make of the pipes (and was thoroughly embarrassed in he process), I was wondering if someone could give me a ballpark figure of what they are worth? I'm sorta curious.

What you have there is the Gibson R-110-C. With the original plastic chanter, they sell new for over $1,200.00 (US) in some places. In other places, they go for over $1,300.00. Used prices depends on how much damage, scratching, etc. there might be. Generally, just the loss of the original warrantee brings used sets down to about about $850.00 or so. In the end, they're going to be worth really what you and a buyer agree that they're worth! This is just a ballpark to start from.

Aren't they R-110-D's? They have the stainless steel tuning slides and the R-110-C's have wood tuning slides...

Cheers,
Kevin

Does anyone else think the one tenor stock has been replaced? (lighter wood)

Maybe something to question or consider if you're the potential buyer.

The first thing I noticed as well. Both tenors look lighter than the bass.

Oops! You are correct. Hey Kev, give me a holler when you can come over. (The Belhaven's holding up, but the Scotch is dwindling!)
