Hi Terry,

Relating to my "Memorable Performances" thread in the Beer Tent forum, I'll also never forget SFU's trip to Maxville in 1982 ... when you guys PEGGED the VU meter on my buddy's tape deck (we had the levels set *just right* for all the previous bands. Schweet.

You all went from "Who ARE These Guys?" to World Class status in a 4-minute MSR ...

Thanks Chris.

In 1982, a Maxville trip was a very big deal for a new Grade 1 band from western Canada.

There are two memories I have of that trip through Chicago and Maxville:

1. How a half-hour eastern thunderstorm could nearly shut down a Highland Games by noon, and

2. Seeing/hearing an entity known only as the "78th" and thinking "Wow, what was that I just heard"?

Terry,

One of the best performances I remember, was when you guys came to Pleasanton in 99 and were practicing on the friday night in a board room at the Hilton. The sound in that room was awesome. I just remember thinking, "I'll never hear anything this good ever again." And after you were done, all you said was, "that'll do." Totally awesome.

Great Topic!

I remember hearing the Glasgow Police live
for the first time in Scotland in 1986!

It was when the plasic chanters were all the rage
and the cops came on playing their A/B Sinclairs.

What a difference, nobody could touch them!

Terry;

I was over to the Worlds in Hamilton in 1985. If you recall, the day was very warm and sunny and, I believe, the significance of the day was focused on Strathclyde because if they won, they would set the record for consecutive World Championships. I had been sitting inside the viewing stand from 9:30 am forward (probably shouldn't have been allowed, but no one said anything), and I taped the Grade 1 MSR and Medley, with the exception of a brief pitstop to collect my "oldman" out of Watson's Pub. Even to this day when I listen to the tape, I am still blown away by how much better you were, in my oppinion, and with everyone else who listens to the tape, that you were the winners that day! It was a memorable performance to listen to and it must have been awesome on the inside! From my discussions with Colin Clansey, I don't believe you have a copy. If you would like one, email me and I'll arrange to get you one.

Certainly 1982 Maxville and the 85 World's had
a great impact. Both due to SFU. My top five would also include three three pipeband concerts.
The Vale at Motherwell for three plus hours of great music. The concert held the Friday night
before the 2000 All Ireland Pipe Band Championship, with St. Laurence O'Toole providing
the most well orchestrated concert I have evry attended. And last but not least the Glen Eagle Pipe Band Live at the North Babylon Town Pool Concert in 1965 because it was the first time I saw a pipe band up close.
