This subject will of course depend on your age, but if you can - select a favorite band from each decade - 60s, 70, 80s, 90s and briefly say why.

Before I answer the question, first prize to your tag. Superb.

I shall leave the 60's and 70's to those who were there, in body if not in mind.

Of the 80's, 78th Frasers. No other band was as consistently worth listening to, IMO, and no, I haven't forgotten the polis band from Glasgow!

In the nineties, the Vale come out way in front. A few years ago, they had a plan (unfortunately ditched - boo!) to produce a medley themselves, and name the tunes so that the list spelt "You may not like this now, but in five years, you'll all be playing it." Right enough.

Cheers,
Calum

Um......I was in the home of a great man and composer who played with a rather good pipe band who had lets see......7 I think, World Championship trophies on his mantle.......seems to me that
Shotts and Dykehead are darn worth mentioning in the 60's and 70's category! :D

Valid point, however the topic of the forum is FAVOURITE PIPE BANDS - not winners of
the most championships. Got a couple of those on my mantle by the way.

I checked the the record Shotts only won once in the 60's (1970) and once in the 70's (1980). Great Band though got to say it.

Just a reminder; my interest is YOUR FAVORITE bands  - NOT who put the most silver on the fireplace, they are not necessarily connected.

Thanks - this could be really interesting

Barry Don't forget Renfrew in the late 50's :bleh: I guess you can't send the 2nd place band on a world tour of the empire. But it did sent Tommy to the USA. :D
Hey Berry are there any recordings of Renfrew form the 50's?

Jeffrey E Dyer.
RE your query on 50's recordings eg. Renfrew Pipe Band. I know that every other week Pipe bands were
featured and the Renfrew Band played a few times.
1956 they were 2nd to Muirheads at Belfast and
in 1957 2nd to Shotts.
Iain MacInnes at Pipeline could be contacted to check if the recordings are still in BBC Scotland's files.
Hope this helps.

Why has no one mentioned the outsatnding bunch of kids who won the worlds two years on the trot in the seventies and were robbed the year before. By this i am obvously talking about a young Dysart and Dundonald band , whose pipe corps was made up of a bunch of seventeen year olds from three small vilages in fife.

The 60's.....Edinburgh Polis....great "ensenble"
The 70"s.....Shotts and Dykehead
The 80"s.....Glasgow Polis..(Strathclyde is their Sunday name)(six -in-a-row!!)
The 90"s.....S.F.U. (my son played in 95, and 96 and they were "awesome") and they went on to win again, and again.
I also really laughed out load at the "Beatles's" reply.....very clever, and they were the best (Pop Group) of "all-time"....Brian S. Campbell. Langly Legion Pipes and Drums. B.C. Canada.
