To steal shamelessly from David Dunbar's "six month-aversary" idea, tomorrow is one year to the day that I first picked up a P/C and started down the "High Road"...

Ala` Mr. Dunbar, here's what I've learned:

1. Crossing noises are caused by the holes moving! I Swear!

2. Playing time = {Maintenance time + "Fiddling" time}/4. If playing cane reeds, divide by 8.

2a. Piping creates a vortex that sucks up all available money!

3. G-D-E combinations are the work of evil forces loose in the world...

4. "Expert pipers" cannae agrrree on the color o' shite! :p

4a. Corollary to #4: What sounds good/works well/is highly recommended by one piper sounds like crap/is a waste of money/is condemned by another...

4b. Ditto: Pipers in bands are the most political people on the planet... :thumb:

6. The answer to the question, "Are those hard to play?" is "YES!"

7. Progress IS possible without a teacher. Efficient progress requires one.

8. Thou shalt tune thy pipes! Frequently and well!

9. Before playing in public, see #8. Execution errors are forgivable, tuning errors are not...

10. Some of the finest people I have ever met, I've met since taking up the pipes. That of course includes you guys... :woohoo:

True.

"Expert pipers" cannae agrrree on the color o' shite! :p

Very true.

Thou shalt tune thy pipes! Frequently and well!

Of course!

<strong>If you want an easy hobby, stick with organic chemistry, multivariate calculus (in Chinese), or quantum mechanics...

I'm sorry Jeff, but I'm going to have to report you to Bob for copyright infringement

Congrats and happy 12monthaversary! :woohoo:

BTW, do you stop drooling after a full year?

Jeff, will you be going to Mt. Vernon in July??

Ken

OK, let's see...

Stormy: Sailors may be nice boys. But if so, I haven't learned it in the last year...

Ken: You're wrong!

David: I DID give you full up credit, right out of the chute! What're you looking for, royalties?! Ha!

And, after twelve months, I drool less, and spit more (from around the mouthpiece)! I don't mean to, but it has the advantage of keeping the looky-loo's at bay...

Ken: I'll be at Mt. Vernon, but not competing. I'll keep my eye out for tall, fair-haired Canadian-style pipers that drool!

A submariner informs me that you haven't been at sea long enough in that case!

Stormy,

The "issue" you are referring to is unique to the submarine community. I (an aviator) have seven years of sea duty, and experience none of the "nice boy" traits you mention and submariners are famous for! :thumb:

Hey!
You guys better be careful about those comments concerning my "bubble head" brothers! I was on a submarine for six years and I aint so freakin nice!!!
Hey Jeff, I think I remember seeing your carrier through the attack scope once!!!

Ya know, Dennis, you bubbleheads have selective memories, in addition to the aformentioned "issues"...You probably don't remember the ship, sonobouy, and helicopter active sonars making your hull ring like a bell while lookin' out the scope, do ya? :thumb:

Not sure how much I can really say, but since it was quite a while ago...
We were in a war games operation where we had to try and penetrate the carrier screen and well...we did! :smokin:

I hope I didn't give the wrong impression as I was playing along! I think I did a pretty good impression of the "diving alarm" though (Ooogah)! :D :D :D

Dennis,

I WILL be risking my life on the highways on Memrial Day, but barring an unfortunate mishap, I'll be there! :woohoo:
