Dear sirs

I am a piper(not my fault I know) and I would be obliged if any reader who is a drummer of any standing and who has experience in oter fields of percussion could assist me in a venture I wish to undertake in an effort to attract recruits from other fields of percussion and drumming into the Pipe band discipline of drumming

How would you go about explaining the strong points of the discipline to a teacher of drumming percussion in an effort to "sell" the pipe band style and discipline??

I am particularly interested in illiciting top drummers perceptions on this point as I intend to try and approach mainstream Drumming teachers and Percussion teachers to try and attract recruits. It is an approach which may well have already been tried but I am unaware of any approaches whch have succeeded or failed

yours aye

hello
i am a long time classical percussionist who started pipe band drumming about 3 years ago. what worked to get me playing side in a pipe band is the fact that it is the most challenging form of snare drumming i've ever encountered and it does wonders for a players hands, regardless what form of percussion they do. that's what got me out in the first place, but i had also never heard a pipe band before so i had a few misconceptions. it's easy to get someone out if they hear how COOL the drumming is and how it works with the pipe music. let them hear recordings and get them out to a practice to hear what it's all about. the first time i heard the band here play, i was wide eyed with wonder with how they played all those notes so cleanly. i was like "are all those accents written down? WOW"....that's the aspect that got me hooked. whether that works for others i don't know, but it worked for me. getting to wear a kilt didn't hurt either
then again, always remember that some people just aren't cut out for this sort of thing, so be persistent.....just my thoughts....
