Seems like Mr. Forrester has nabbed one of my tunes off of Tune Post and has decided to distribute it for me.

I am very flattered, but a little incensed. All I ask for is a bit of feedback on my tune. I have 3 tunes that are "in the public eye". 2 on Tune Post and one on my personal site. I encourage people to have a look, and if you like the tunes please post a comment or 2 in my guest book, or shoot me an e-mail.

My new policy is to keep my cards close to my chest until my collection is ready. Then I will distribute the tune book via my website.

I understand where publishers of music books are going with this. Especially when these books contains their original works. Please support these people if you can... buy their books and/or CDs. Give them the credit they are due.

How do you know he took it? Maybe someone who visited your and the Tune Post site uploaded the tune to his site.

Your tune may be on his site but that doesn't mean he personally downloaded it and posted it.

Heh, you have a point there Roger.

I don't know how my post became a separate thread; it was intended to go under the "sheet music sites" thread.

Just so's ya know, a collection is in the works. It will contain over 75 tunes from several pipers from the Montreal and Quebec region. I am quite excited by this project, in that it will probably be a first, for the Montreal Piping scene.

The Montreal piping scene is really the oldest in Canada, and has made a profound effect on Canada's piping and drumming scene.

2 of my tunes are in the Tunepost section of P&D Online. The 3rd tune is on my own website, and I'll admit to not having changed it lately, mainly because I want to surprise people when the collection is ready.

Keep them wanting more I always say. I do appreciate the positive feedback though, thanks :woohoo:

Personnally, if i wanted to really promote my tunes, i would record them on a CD and give the sheet music away, but then again I'm not writing music for money.

hey Jeff;

Kinda off topic here a little bit, but I was pondering a few things earlier while reading some of the posts on this site when something came to mind. Ya know, in a not so distant future, our two regiments are going to be the only ones left to carry on some famous names?

Ach Glen,

don't forget the Seaforths and the two Cameron Units... they have been "carrying on famous names" for a while now.

I am quite depressed about the whole amalgamation thing and would rather not carry on that chat here. :-(

I am not really trying to "write tunes for money" as Conner says. I do want to put together an enjoyable collection of tunes, that LOOKS good and can be considered to be an interesting Canadian bagpipe music product, perhaps on a par with "The Gathering of the Clans Collection".

I am hoping I can cover my costs, and if I make a bit more for all the time I have put into typesetting and editing and putting it together, I will be happy. I am not running this on a tight time schedule, I am actually doing this on my free time. I realize at first it may be a hard go, but I think the tunes within will speak for themselves.

I have considered a CD with the tunes, but then for some of the tunes that are not my own, I have to learn them and play them...plus I am not sure I want to embark on the costs of making a CD.

When you have your tune book completed and ready for publication, sales, I would be very interested in acquiring a few copies.

Please provide access to your website as soon as it is feasible for you to do so.

Pipermacbear,
Have you thought about putting just the music on CD, in either PDF or BMW GOLD files? Paper copy is great, but I use the CD file method for my current collection (Out of Galilee, A First Book of Israeli Pipe Tunes) of about 75 tunes. I "burn" on demand (maybe 2-4 per week), so not much expense. Also, shipping is light, which for me is important. Maybe sending printed matter in domestic post isn't expensive, but international rates can build up.

All the best with the collection.
