Bob,

would it be possible to allow a user to set a preference for the forum not to mark posts as read UNLESS he/she tells it to, by going to 'my profile' and hitting 'update new posts'? This might sound weird, but on my poxy dial-up connection :mad: I have often been disconnected by the service provider for no apparent reason :mad: and dialled up again only to find that all the new post flags are gone... and it makes the forum harder to read.... :(

It's on my forum wish-list anyway, for future reference. :wink:

Sorry about this, the simple answer at this time is "no".

The Forum software simply uses cookies on your system to time stamp your latest visit - other than comparing that date / time to the current, there is not really anything special done to track new posts. I'll look into this idea, but I would guess there might be some additional and unwanted consequences - like it might not be a seamless change..
