View Full Version : Viewing poll results without voting first

Why is there a restriction on viewing poll results, that you must vote first? This has been a pain in the bahookie. There have been a few polls out there in the Beer Tent that I wouldn't have minded looking at the results, but had no intention in voting in, current case in point being the current poll on "Worlds or Maxville". Since I haven't been to either/both, I can't really vote, but that doesn't stop me being interested in seeing what others think. Which is why I read The Forum in the first place...

Cheers,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

The goal is just to encourage participation - the thought is that many might not participate if they could just see the results of polls first - but you'd be correct in pointing out that a very small number participate in polls anyway.

However - the way the software works at this time is such that there is no choice for us in this matter - there is no way (at this time) to enable / allow anyone to view a poll without them having voted first - the software is reasonable smart in the tracking of participants, and it uses that logic to limit viewing. To change this would not be trivial I fear..

That's fair enough Bob -- I was more or less assuming that this would have been a configurable option in the forum software.

I'll live :)

Stuart.

I do bogus votes all the time, just so that I can see the results. Does this skew the results?... sure. But that's life in the polling world. :p

I guess the poll now has at least a variable of -1%
