I know there are new forums popping up here and new forums probably take time and space.....but I was wondering what the feedback would be for a forum where people could post about pipes and such being placed on EBAY.

To allow for identification or help in identifying these pipes or dress. I know there are sites (Ringos) that can help with some identification but to the untrainied eye looking for a possible prize set, help would be great. I hate to see all the posts about EBAY pipes being hendersons or such and turning out to be some bogus "antique" salesman!

I would imagine, as soon as the pipes are sold the thread could be closed or deleted? Or maybe if I don't know what I am looking at I shouldn't be looking :D . If this something possble or some of the "educated" eyes would be willing to help, this would be an interesting learning tool as well as save some pipers some unwanted frustration!

Hi Rob,

I was waiting to see if there were any other responses here.

My initial thoughts are that they way we're handling this sort of query is working I think? I mean - many questions start off in the Beer Tent, some in the T&I Forum, but the discussion fits and usually takes place in the T&I Forum.

I do think the T&I Forum covers the subject matter of Pipe ID / Value / ... well, and I don't think we actually see enough of this type of query / post to make a separate forum worth the space (Seems to me we see less than one a day overall?)

But, as always, I am interested in other views..

One reason for this post was to see if anyone that usually helps with the ID's, like Ringo, would reply here..

I don't know if people look at the constant need for help ID'ing EBAY pipes as a nuissance or are willing. I was mainly interested to see if the educated pipe ID individuals were at all keen to the Idea of constantly helping people. I for one am always looking to find that "older" set of Hendersons. That is my dream pipe and when I find it, I will never let go. I would agree, there is probably not much need now, but if the area did exist, do you feel it would be used more often?

As always, thanks for the response!

I'd like to see this as well. I've seen more postings on here about this topic than I have for some other topics which generated a new forum.

Beware of pipes being advertised on eBay and else where for that matter.
Do not fall for the low priced pipes as they are usually Pakistan made. Very light weight and usually brownish in colour.Very poor tone if you can ever tune them!

I'm not sure about a forum just for ebay pipes, but the traffic in the T&I forum is one of the heaviest, so a way to parse out some of the noise might be useful. For example, a forum called
Bagpipes and Bagpipe Makers could include:

- IDing obscure pipes
- discussing pipes for sale on ebay
- what pipes should I buy
- what reeds go well in my kind of bagpipe
