Dear Heather
I would like to know what you and your members thought about what should be done (as Judges) about incorrect Costuming in the Irish Jig and Hornpipe.
Let's face it
We are told that a cross back Jig dress
cannot be worn
A Cummerbund can't be worn with a SKirt and Blouse.
But when it comes down to it you can't penalise for incorrect Jig attire but you can penalise Dancers for incorrect Hornpipe outfit

Good idea for a thread!
I agree that the Jig is a hard costume to nail down. It's been my experience lately that almost anything goes and most judges are reluctant to stick their necks out. One of the reasons for the confusion seems to be the differences between the words used in "British" English and "American" English and which one we subscribe to! i.e. jumpers and pinafores - both have entirely different meanings in different countries and what exactly is a pinafore? I have actually seen orange dresses and skirts in Scotland instead of red - but then one's interpretation of orange could be quite red to another!

I'd also like to hear other opinions before I stick my own neck out!! Maybe we can help to clear the confusion for all countries.
