I have been doodling with Macromedia's Flash and would like to get some opinions on a "sample intro" I recently made. Please let me know if the load time was too long, quality of graphics, sound, etc. It is a pretty simple page.

Note: The tune has nothing to do with stalled contract negotiations with our county... :D

Note 2: The page is only accessible through the below link and it not for the "general public." I just trust all you pipers and drummers out there!

Thanks, Ron

Ron,

Just went to it and it seems fine. Not too long a download on images, and I have a dial up connection. Simple and to the point.

I'm on a 512k dsl line. Loaded right quick. I might suggest you reduce the size of the screen though. I don't normally have my browser set to full screen and by the time I was done adjusting it, the intro was over. Nice job overall!

Ron,

 great song - not what I was expecting..

Very fast to load, impressively so for me (2-way satellite here). Clean, simple, attractive..

I'll echo Scott's comments about window size (although I got the resize done in time for the 'BANG'.. which did make me jump <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/shocked.gif )

Nicely done :hatoff:

Gota love that song brother...man you crack me up! Bout had me in tears in the circle last Monday with that thing you were doing when we all us newbies could not play the rest of the song... Good job on the flash man... looks great... I'm on a T1 and it's all fast to me.

I'm on a t1 and it was fast for me, too. The image and words were wider than my screen though- that's where it gets technical and I bow out! Great overall!

Don't give up Crowegirl! You can do it...he just needs to resize the scans... couple clicks and it's off to the races! Not very Techie, see?

Hearing that the screen size is too big really helps. You don't readily see that when you are creating on the flash "stage" because it is small.

Thanks for the comments. Load time was really an issue and it seems that even (us) on dialup can still get it without a huge wait.

I'd like to try some flash, but I can't justify the expense of the tools.

Me too Drew,

A couple of years ago I downloaded the demo version from Macromedia - you get 30 days to 'play' with it.. I did my little BassDrums intro.. then ran out of time..

I think there are some other tools (not as $$?).. for writing / creating??

Does anyone have experience with them?

Try Swish Dudes... much much better
Swish Website (http://www.swishzone.com/)
Cost effective as well.

I'd like to try some flash, but I can't justify the expense of the tools.

coffee cup software (http://www.coffeecup.com/) makes a "firestarter" program that goes for like $50. IF its anything like their HTML editor, you get free upgrades until such time as you are planted in the ground.

Also, if you know anyone in college they can usually pick up the Macromedia Suite at the campus bookstore for a whole lot less than you can in the retail stores.

Cost effective as well. I have to agree with Lonny here. Swish offers you some really great tools, easy to use, and super cheap compared to Flash.

Thanks for the hint about SWISH. I will give it a try. $50 I can afford.

I may soon be flashing myself

Anyone know if there is a cheap alternative for Shockwave things?
