Just 'cause...
I had some time, was bored, and didn't like the load times for the old one..

Years ago, when I created the old BCPipers home page, I was really in love with mouseover.. and a little too proud (I guess) of doing it.. The net effect was 90+ elements to be loaded for the home page, small overall file size, but way too slow to load IMV.

So - I've created a new home page - really simple, and quite fast to load too..

And I'm not sure now.. is slow to load, with all the 'cool' mouseover information a better thing than the fast to load, and exceedingly simple thing I've just created?

Your thoughts on that?

Oh - old:

For your comparison

I like the new look. Crisp and clean.

However I do have one comment and I mean this only in the most constructive of ways. I think maybe your What's New List is a little long. You might want to consider pushing it off to another page every month or quarter or whatever. But all in all a real :thumb:

Very speedy load time, easy to navigate. Great job!!

We've talked about this before Bob, and I don't know if it's my server or... The counter takes forever, 56 sec. today, to load but the page itself comes in a lot faster now. Another strange effect I get is that the image with the title on it doesn't load until after the counter. Tried it three times after clearing my cache and had the same result.

All in all though it's an improvement.

Thanks John,

I know you're right about the What's New list length.. It is usually my goal to have a just couple of months there.. but often I forget to even check, and then  ..

Another goal of keeping that list is to show that regular updates and additions are done..

But - I wonder.. is a month enough? 2? ??

Interesting Ken..

I wonder where the problem comes from? I just checked - twice.. 5 and 7 seconds to load, everything on the page, the counter was last - but at most only 7 seconds to get it all.

The whole new page thing is kind of funny .. to me at least.. the older home page took me days / weeks of coding, debusggin, plus all the graphics, etc..

And now, with even more experience and knowledge, and a few years later, the version I think I'll go with took 30 minutes  I will make it prettier in time.. but I guess it is another illustration of the old trap.. Chasing cool 'I wonder if I can' challenges, does not translate into the best answer (often)
