Sorry for the simplicity of this question-- in the Grade IV if you choose a 2/4 march-or for that matter 6/8 or slow march- do you have to play them through twice?
Thanks.
Check the EUSPBA rules page at
http://www.euspba.org/euspba/publications/2003rulebook3.pdf
In grade 4 the requirements are one 4 parted 2/4 march or 2 each 2 parted tunes (but you probably won't win that way)for the quick march event. The 6/8 event also requires a 4 parted tune. Therfore you do not need to play these twice. The slow march event is one 2 parted slow march or slow air, played only once through. The piobaireachd competition is either the ground only OR the full tune, depending on the choice of the games competition organizers.

Corkpiper,
For clarity, while you play the 4-parted tune once, you do play the repeats on each part.

That would be like saying I'm more likely to win because I play something harder/easier than someone else, when I am really being judged on myself vs. what I am playing. Last year I won a contest and had played just about the simplest thing of the whole group, but the point was I played it well. So if someone can do a better job with two marches, I dont't think it should bias a judge against them. Besides, memorizing two 2 part marches might be more challenging to some people, but I think they made this rule becasue it is kinda hard to find a 4 part 2/4 that doesn't just get crazy hard by the third and fourth parts.
When I think about it, it does all seem a little weird and make me wonder why the EUSPBA doesnt have forced upgrades for people who are playihg above grade level, or retribution for playing something too easy for your grade.
OK, my rant is done.

The EUSBPA grade IV piob rules say either ground or full tune. Does the full tune mean through all variants including Crunluath?

You must also play the a-machs if the tune is one listed under those which require an a-mach. There is a listing on their website for those which require crunluath a-machs.

Speaking of GrIV piob, has anyone here been to a contest where the full tune was played? All the GrIV piob I've been to have been ground only. I'd like the chance to play the whole thing, but don't know if I'll have the chance.

If you want to play the full piobaireachd in Grade IV then go to a games that Jimmy McIntosh may have a hand in. It is my recollection that he was not in favor of the Ground Only from the get go.
There are two games around Pittsburgh that I know of that offer the Full Piobaireachd in Grade IV: Ligonier in September and West Virginia in May.
