In the not-so-distant past, the Charleston Highland Games had a 6/8 march competition on the Grade IV individual. It was discontinued due to lack of participation.

How do ya'll feel about a 6/8 march competition on the Grade IV individual level?

I think there is a 6/8 section for Gr IV in the Montgomery Alabama Games.

I think 6/8 QM is a great opportunity to play something other than a 2/4. I wish more games had it included. I'd rather play the 6/8 QM than the slow march.

Harrisburg, PA (June 19th) is also offering Grade IV 6/8 March as well as Grade IV Slow March.

In the past, we only get about 1/2 of the Grade IV competitors to sign up for the 6/8 March in comparison to the 2/4 March.

Glasgow, KY normally has a 6/8 competition. I placed 2nd last year as a matter of fact. But yea I like the idea of it. I also like the slow air competition at Charleston. I think the full pio. is too much for a Grade IV competitor. Pio. ground is probably sufficient starting ground for Grade IV. A variety of music makes it a bit funner and takes your mind off the 2/4.

I would jump at the opportunity to do the 6/8 here in WUSPBA land. I'm tired of the 2/4.

I suppose I shall put "reviving the 6/8 at Charleston" on my to-do list.

At my first competition, there was a truckload of pipers in the Grade IV 2/4 march, and I must have heard Atholl and Breadlebane Gathering at least 5 times. There were only 6 of us in the 6/8 march and it seemed everybody had a different tune.

Otherwise it's 2/4 march and ground-only piobaireachd for Grade IV around here.

Actually, there's a 6/8 for Grade IV next month at the games held in Arlington, Texas. Anyone have any suggestions for a quick-n-easy to learn-n-play FOUR PARTED 6/8 March?

Houston's games only req a four parted 2/4 and the ground to a piob for Gr IV.

Cheers.

Just to say that I now try to include 6/8 Marches when I'm running a contest. There are some real crackers about, as well as the run of the mill. 'Bruce Gandy' and 'Duncan MacGillivray' for instance are great to sit back and listen to as I did recently when judging a contest with Chris Apps. There seems to be many good 6/8's sitting around idle, and as these marches could add some freshness to solo events, I would support it at all levels.
I am looking for a niche in our 'London' contest for a 6/8 March event.
Cheers

I went with "10th Btn HLI Crossing the Rhine" my first time out. See also "P/M John D. Burgess".

In the Northwestern US and B.C., Canada, we have a 6/8 solo event in grade IV.

I really like it. One of the few times in one's career that you will compete solo in a 6/8, and I agree with Roger, there are many many terrific 6/8's about. I say great whether you are looking for a nice melody, technically challenging tune, or both.

The Arkansas games in April had one. I know, because I embarrassed myself greatly!

6/8 competition is fun b/c you see a lot of the people who don't make the prize list in 2/4 or piob. win in Grade IV. :) I wish we had had more 6/8 comps. when I was in Gr. 4.

Part of the problem with participation is that there are too few 6/8 competitions available. In Gr IV, I played in 2, one per season. It seemed an awful lot of work, putting together another tune, just for one competition. If most of the games started offering the event, you'd get the same participation as 2/4 march.

I miss the 6/8's now. Probably won't get to play them again until Gr I or Open.
