Hi! I'm a rank beginning piper, just learning for myself, no intention of competing. But I'm interested in the competition process. Is there a resource that explains the grades, judging process, the whole shebang? I'm forming some opinions on a few of the other thread topics, and I want to have an idea what I'm taking about before I consider humiliating myself by expressing them. ;-)

C,
Check out Andrew Lenz's website, bagpipejourney.com (http://www.bagpipejourney.com) . There's lots of great information including "Whate to expect for your first competition" and Andrew's own competition journal which is fun to read and educational. Also, he has a good explanation of why pipers are in the grade they're in, or what's expected of pipers in certain grades.

Check out the EUSPBA Resources webpage (http://www.euspba.org/resource.htm) .
I would recommend reading the 2005 Competition Rules & Regulations (http://www.euspba.org/pdf/pub-rulesnregs.pdf)
&
So You Want to Compete (http://www.euspba.org/pdf/pub-soyouwanttocompete.pdf)
"So You Want to Compete" is a FAQ type publications answering questions of First Time Competitors.

Also, consider attending a games and just hang around the 'boards' to see what goes on. Ask questions if you want - as most people love to talk about this stuff.
