I was awarded a trophy last night by the members of the Swiss-German band in which I play Pauke, (Bass drum)

The inscription says "Verbrannti Chaib"

I don't speak Swiss-German so I asked for a translation from the other (Swiss) members while I stood to make my acceptance speech. But I was told that there is no equivalent in English.

Unprepared, I started my acceptance speech by saying modestly that it was a great honour to be awarded, etc, but they laughed their socks off, or whatever passes for socks in the Alps.

Translation please.

Just checked and it seems they were right!

Gruesse Greymalkin!

I'm wondering, do you kind of happen to play a wee bit faster than they would like?

Verbrannti = verbrannte = scorched

Cha"ib = Kerl = guy. Hmmm, kinda tame, but
Cha"iba" = rennen/schnell laufen = running

Sound like you've got the trophy for "marching the band down the street as if your a*se is on fire". :lol:

I'll admit that my schwyzerdu"tsch is very rusty, and had to look up Chaib. Here's the reference I used

Of course, I could have the wrong end of the stick all together, and maybe you just have one helluva tan, but I like the version I came up with...

Regards,
Stuart.
