I used Evans oil-filled hydraulics years ago on my drum kit, and wondering how people feel about using them on pipe band tenors? Too dead? Your opinions please.

Which drums are you using them on?
They sure will give you that slick (no pun) 70's american studio sound with thick bottom end and little or no decay.
If that's the sound that you're shooting for then go for it.
With good quality drums and shell mounted damping, the tonality choice can be made with head choice.
That's the thing that alot of people are missing the point on.
Every great kit player has their own preference of sound. They get it by experimenting with heads.
Go For It!
