Piper MacKay and his cousin visited Canda's north. While there, they were totally impressed with the Northern way of life. After witnessing throat singing, and Inuit drumming, they played a few tunes on their bagpipes. The Inuit were very impressed.

The next day, the two pipers were invited to try out the Inuit's special form of boat, the two-person kayak. They didn't quite know how to row it, so they didn't get too far when night fell, and they were not really dressed for sub-zero nighttime temperatures. Sitting in the kayak, many miles from the shore, and drifting, the two Scottish pipers grew incredibly uncomfortable, so they lit a fire in the craft.

Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

(Luckily, the flames were seen by an Inuit family passing by in their umiack, who picked them up and brought them to safety. Otherwise, these Piper MacKay stories would have to come to an end!)

Did you catch something from the water in Oban last summer?

That's why I never touched the stuff...

Seriously... Keep it coming Scott...

Hi Ken.

Stay tuned. Piper Mackay will be back, appearing in many other old jokes such as the one above.

In addition to meeting up with you and enjoying a full day and evening of excellent piobaireachd at Oban, I visited the Island of Mull and the Island of Iona. Would you believe:

It was raining so hard in the morning that we took a taxi from our B&B to the ferry terminal. It rained the whole way over to Mull, and during the bus ride to the other end of Mull. It stopped raining as we approached the little ferry to Iona and remained dry during our two-and-a-half-hour visit there. Coming back on the little ferry, the clouds grew ominous once more and, as we climbed onto the bus, the rain started again. It rained hard all the way back to Oban and once more we were forced to take a taxi ride back to our B&B.

We like to think of that weather experience on Iona as our own little miracle!
