The phone rang and Piper MacKay’s wife answered, "Hello."
"Hello. May I speak with Mrs. MacKay, please." The voice on the other end said.
"Speaking,” said Mrs. MacKay.
"Mrs. MacKay, this is Doctor Jones at the hospital. You will recall that your husband was in for some tests last week?”
“Yes,” replied Mrs. MacKay.
“Well, when the attendant sent Piper MacKay’s blood sample to the lab, blood from another Mr. MacKay arrived as well, and we are now uncertain which sample was your husband's. Frankly the results are either bad or terrible."
"What do you mean?" Mrs. MacKay asked nervously.
"Well, one of the tests was positive for Alzheimer's, and the other test was positive for AIDS. We can't tell which is your husband's."
"That's dreadful!” exclaimed Mrs. MacKay. “Can't you do the test again?"
"Normally we could, but the National Health will only pay for these expensive tests one time."
"Well, what am I supposed to do now?" asked Mrs. MacKay.
"The people at National Health recommend that you drop your husband off somewhere in the middle of town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him."
