Some photos from Highland Games in Czech Republic.
Taken by a friend of mine. There's a lot of them, that's why I decided to post a link to the whole album instead of images.

All in all a very nice event.
Cheers
Men doing highland dancing and women in the games? What kind of mixed-up, backwards country is this?
Just kidding. Great pictures. Looks like a fun event.

Well, as you can see it's in Czech Republic (a backward country in Europe :) ).
Although this event is called "Highland Games", it's more like a display of Celtic culture and not your typical games event.
It happens every year in a beautiful castle 100 km from Prague.
Mind you, there ARE some competitions:
- Heavies
- Solo pipers (different levels + Piob)
There is no HD nor PipeBand competition as such, only a display. There are also concerts of Scottish and Irish music, Scottish Country Dance Display, Birds of Prey Exhibition, some Reenactors ' (Jacobites, ancient celts, etc) campsites.
As for the heavies - close to the spot where the professionals compete, there is also a place for the spectators, where they can toss the caber, etc. The caber and other stuff for the public are of course much lighter. That's why you can see women and even kids having a good time.
As for the men doing HD: as far as I know nobody forbade men to do that :) . Plus, not so long ago it was only men who were doing the dancing and not women. And people (esp. women) like the sight of men dancing in kilts - don't ask me why.
We do not compete, and frankly speaking I think that most of us wouldn't have a chance in a competition (we started dancing late in life), but for the show our level is more or less OK I guess.
