I was reading an article about the Royal Australian Regiment at the Battle of Long Tan (Vietnam) in 1966, and this excellent photo accompanied the article.

Thank you, ANZAC servicemen for your efforts around the globe and through the years.

Thanks for sharing that, Chris (changed your pic, huh?), and many thanks to ANZAC from me also.

Yeah, changed the pic ... finally!

Several people said I was much better looking than the puffed-cheek photo indicated, so I figured I'd better upgrade! :)

I see an Armalite and an SLR in the weapons lineup....

For those who may not know -there were a (limited)number of UK servicemen also involved in the Vietnam conflict

Good eye, John - I didn't even notice the M-16 in that picture. In the other photos in the article (from Vietnam Magazine) the troops pictured were using FN SLRs.

In 1986 I played at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, in honor of Canadians who served in Vietnam. Apparently there were quite a significant number who came south, joined the US military, and fought over there. Amazing.

I'll post a photo of that ceremony when I dig one up.

I read somewhere that more Canadians came south and joined the U.S. military, than there were U.S. war protesters who went north of the border.
