I saw a old black and white photo a while back of a regimental-type pipe band in the background and a dog in the forefront of the picture, carrying a set of pipes. He had the lower section of the bass drone in his mouth and actually had the rest of the set off the ground (with the pipe chanter trussed up on top of the middle drone.
Anyone know where I can get hold of a copy of this photo, or any particulars?

Wallace, the mascot of the Canadian Scottish, followed them all through WWII. There were numerous press photos of him, some of which were made into postcards and still can be found floating around today.

Randy,

I tried that site and it says that it can't be found--that it no longer exists.

I had no problems accessing it. Nice photo, but I cringe to see pipes so treated (and I love dogs - mine is named "Piper," but I would never let him get within 10 feet of my pipes!)

That is too cute! I did some digging on their site and they still name the dog "Wallace" they are up to the IV incarnation of their masscot

Jenni,

Well, it was working! Try the Pipe Band's home page at: http://www.cscotrpipesanddrums.com

On the left, click on 'Photo Albums,' then on 'Photo Album #1.' At least you can see the thumbprint images.

The link worked for me... actually looks a bit like a dog we've had for a year now. Thanks for the picture post.

There must be a server somewhere with outdated URL tables. I can't get through to the site either, although I've been able to in the past. Where ever the problem is, all the links to the CanScots come up as unavailable for me and have for four days.

Sorry, it did not work...I had hoped to be able to put the picture up here. The web site is working...I tried it three times now, got it to display each time..

I think there's something wrapped around the bottom joint of that bass drone to protect it from sharp doggie teeth. That's a terribly cute dog.

Actually the Regiment is up to Wallace VI now. The owner/handler is Master Warrant Officer Charles Middleton.

Here is a photo of Wallace leading the combined Regimental and Regimental Association Pipes and Drums at the 2005 Victoria Day Parade...

And here is a terrific article published not long ago in the Victoria Times-Colonist...
