Thought this was share-worthy. It's on the front of the BBC news.

Do we know any of these guys?

I saw this picture in the Aberdeen Press and Journal. Judging by the colour of the immitation Ivory, I'd say his pipes are getting on a bit. He maybe needs some new tongues in his drone reeds.

Is he even playing with the drones?

There was an Eygyptian army band at Edinburgh Tattoo some years ago (military plus pipes/drums), kitted out similar to this. Not sure if drones actually worked though!! Quite a swagger in their marching too - hard to keep pipes on your shoulder I would think. Chanter pitch was a bit off to the western ear, but I think probably comfortable to those attuned to some styles of middle eastern music.

just different - not wrong

Doogie - I didn't say I liked it, just that they were different - tuned to their ear.

I still wanted someone to jump out and tune drones/chanter etc - it grated something awful!! :bleh:

By the time the drones get to that state of tuning they are actually neither sharp nor flat....just erm.......Egyptian!!

And I meant the chanter. Ive heard these guys before and they have an incredibly flat bottom hand and a high pitched top hand....does not really meet in the middle!!?

When you are trying to coax snakes out of baskets thats the sound you need!!
