The old Q&A Forum is open again.
A two day session this time - and I want to thank Cameron for being our 'Guinea Pig' for this, another one of our little experiments :D . To date in this Q&A Forum we've tried a reed maker, a couple of pipe makers, and now the manufacturer of the Pipe Caddy.
As a form of introduction, this is from a note Cameron sent to me:
In July 2001 I was at a Highland games. Our band had walked a long parade and where we ended up was even further from where we parked. I had to carry my brand new pipes for the rest of the day and thought there must be a better way. I looked around at various piping retailers for a carryall bag. Nothing simple, small available. I searched local camping stores looking for a stuff sack to hold bagpipes, still nothing suitable. As necessity is the mother of invention I made a bag to fit my pipes. When not in use though I didn't know what to do with it. My sporran was already too full and day jacket pockets were out of the question. So I fabricated a belt mounted pouch to hold the bagpipe bag when not in use. Well one thing led to another and I'd made several of these things for other band members. My wife said "hey, I'm no longer the pipe caddy" one day when we were, yet again, at a Highland games. The name was born.
I showed the design to Jim McGillivray, Chris Hamilton and a few other people who have helped me along the way with piping questions and purchases. Fortunately for me they were interested in stocking it. Well now I'm excited to say that there are retailers in Eastern and Western Canada, the USA and Australia that are all selling the PIPE CADDY. Will I get rich on the sales - no. Will I help other pipers who are getting sore arms when lugging around their pipes - I hope so.
I welcome your questions and suggestions and encourage you to find a need in the marketplace, piping or otherwise, that isn't be filled and do something about it. :hatoff:
