Rob:
First, Thank you for answering our questions on the forum. I would like to know how you would compare your reeds to the EZees which are a very widely used reed today. Would you consider your reed to be a more mellow and sweeter sounding reed or does your reed give a bigger and richer drone sound? Thank you for your help. Cheers

Jerry,

I am probably not the person to ask about comparing my reeds to other manufacturers. First, I don't typically play any other reeds than my own for any length of time. I am also biased. If I didn't think that my reeds were the best, I would quit making them.

In terms of sound (which is very subjective), I would have to say that my reeds produce a rich, warm, balanced sound that can be very "big" in certain makes of pipes. I particularly like a deep, rich bass sound, and I have done my best to bring out that sound in my bass reed design.

The overall sound of any bagpipe is a combination of the bore geometry and the reed. The reed is the excitation mechanism that (if properly designed) produces a large band of harmonics that the bore selectively enhances or diminishes. Reeds that sound brilliant in one instrument may not perform as well in others.
