Fiber cane actually works quite nicely for pipe chanter reeds. The same stuff the bassoon players use. I have wanted to produce bagpipe reeds from fiber cane for some time now, which I'm sure would be a very hot item. Especially for beginners as the strength you order is the strength it stays pretty much indefinetely. Having them available in different strengths would be a boon to the piping world. Sigh..... so little $$$$ so many good ideas. Good luck to you Rob, give fiber cane a try when you get around to it. The first person to mass produce a good fiber cane pipe chanter reed will own the market.
