Chris / Jim,

If I were to purchase a product from you - and 'it' did not work in my pipes - would you take 'it' back?

What do you do with opened / return products?

Thanks.

Absolutely. I'm sure Chris will say the same thing. Now, if you're returning something simply because you don't like it or it does not suit your pipes, we need to receive it back in re-sellable condition. So be careful not to 'customize' something (i.e. carve a reed or chanter, cut the sleeves off the bottoms of your Ezeedrones) until you know you're going to keep it.

Cheers,
Jim

Yep, that's right. Exactly what Jim said (no, we're not secretly collaborating here).

Even if the bag is the wrong size and has already been installed and de-installed, and therefore not sellable as 100% new, I try to work something out.

Yes, I even had a set of pipes returned once. I didn't feel there was anything wrong with them, but the guy didn't like the color of the wood, and he said he just didn't care for the sound of the drones. Who am I to argue with that? But if it wasn't what the guy was looking for, then so be it. I did assess the 10 or 15% restocking fee, of course, for my trouble and the depreciation, and that was no problem. I rarely invoke that, only when it's absolutely necessary to cover my costs and losses.

Now the funny thing is, I mentioned this story on the voy.com piping forum, and I got horrified responses like "You're ADMITTING that you had pipes returned? What, do you sell crappy pipes? You would admit this in public?" I was stunned. Well hell, wouldn't you like that sort of guarantee when making a big purchase? I'm not going to lie to the customers. Gee, I guess these folks assume their retailer lies to them frequently.

I had no trouble selling the set later (as a slightly used set, and I told the customer the history of the set).
