Pipe band contest 1989

Just this week I digitized some slides I took at a Highland Games in 1989.

I'm not sure which Games.

I was evidently up in the stands, and took photos of several bands from the same angle.

Prince Charles Pipe Band (San Francisco) (note the heavy hand-knit Arran hose so popular then)

Los Angeles Police Pipe Band

Cabar Feidh Pipe Band (Pipe Major is Gold Medalist Jimmy McColl)

House Of Scotland Pipe Band

Nicholson Pipes & Drums (interesting to see a band still wearing spats and horsehair sporrans)

I don't remember what band this was- any help would be appreciated. (No hats!)

I don't remember this one either

Note that no band is wearing waistcoats sans jackets, the modern pipe band standard.

I wonder if that last band might be the old Irish Heritage PB of San Francisco. They did have solid blue kilts, although I remember a different shade of blue to the one I'm seeing here. That may be more to do with how the machine picks up colors than the reality on the field, though. I think I remember different bonnets, too, but it was a long time ago.

Sorry that's the best I can do. The memory isn't what it used to be. (In fact, it may never have been what it used to be.)

Cheers,

Interesting...in the Inis Fada Gaelic PB ( est. ca 1956) on the opposite coast in NY we also wore solid blue kilts...rather like a blue serge suit color ...not dark or navy blue. Same white hose.
The band held EUSPBA Grade 3 Champions status for two consecutive yrs ‘81-82 and was then elevated to grade 2.

I don't see a solid blue. I seem to see green mixed in with the blue.

...you are right...I zoomed in and see it too. I was initially surprised to learn i of another US band back then also wearIng solid blue...( not to say not possible...more likely probable..) ..but in those days Al Gore hadnít unveiled the internet yet so not so easy to check.
