Favorite solo reed?

Anyone here have a certain make of solo chanter reed they use religiously? Or do some people switch it up and try multiple makers (like myself)?

I use a few different makes, and sort them between 4 chanters:shrug:

I think I have most makes at this point, probably about 20 from over the years. Favorites have been Chesneys and McPhee. Troys are tonally top shop but I get tired of breaking them in and then tweaking.

For me, the Troy-MacAllister reeds have been a go to reed in all my solo chanters. Last year, I played a Husk in a borrowed Shepherd ABW and liked it.

Once, I secured the Shepherd into my ownership, I played with other reeds. Currently, MacLellan reeds sound really good at my playing strength (easy-medium).

Shepherd moulded, never fails.

Have tried most and always return to the Shepherds. Though I would say that I have had excellent results with Troy MacAllister too.

Have been playing Macphee since the late 1980s. Won me a number of solo prizes when I was younger and competing. Donald still makes outstanding reeds, see no reason to try any others.

I like Shepherd straight cut, and Gilmour from Australia.
