World-renown Bagpiper coming to Scott Middle School...

World renown Bagpiper coming to Scott Middle School

I don't believe I've heard of Don Shannon. Obviously, journalists often resort to hyperbole . . . though he's played for some big names.

Good positive article.

Him talking about playing for kids, reminds me of when I played for my wife's 1st grade students. By the time I was done playing, quite a number of classes had poured out of the buildings to join them. Piped Piper!

Sounds good... except for the classic “Queen of England” reference.... American journalists every time [emoji37]

(HM is the Queen of Great Britain and NI, as well as Canada, Aus, NZ etc... but there has been no “Queen of England” since 1606.)

Well, she is the queen of England, right? Also the queen of a bunch of other areas too though, right?

It'd be like saying the president of California, which while technically correct, would not be all encompassing by virtue of not mentioning the other states in the USA, right?

Would Queen of the Commonwealth be appropriate?

"Queen of Great Britain and NI, as well as Canada, Aus, NZ etc" is too long for most newspapers. :)

Correct— it would be the equivalent of saying “President of California”. Makes no sense. And “Queen of Great Britain and NI” is a separate legal entity from “Queen of Canada” etc etc so only GB would really need to be mentioned. We all know who we’re talking about.

“Head of the Commonwealth” is correct but “Queen of the Commonwealth” is not due to objections from various republics in the Commonwealth, ie Ireland and India.

Ireland is not in the commonwealth.

I may not be world renowned but I am notorious in parts of two states 1300 miles apart and pipe annually in a small city's school music program...

Does that count for something besides a small honorarium, and lunch?

To quote (paraphrase) the Piping Times of yore - "Americans have their own views and resent the intrusion of Reality!"

Victoria was Empress of India, I'm to lazy to look up her death date and successor, but I think 1948 was the end of the Brits in India, Mount batten being the last Viceroy. The current Queen came in in 1956 I think so she was never queen or empress of India, or Ireland for that matter.

Perhaps Megan will be Queen of Canada now that her and the foxy lad have left the Royal family to move there.
