Maybe tuned up outside in the heat, but the church was air-condititioned?
He seemed to working much too hard.

No, I don't think a temperature issue. Drones sound ok, more or less stable, should be a chanter reed issue. Perhaps an object (??) getting in the reed and disturbing/stopping vibration.

It was the wedding piper...incarnate... whom we’ve seen before posted on BDF in ‘ how not to....’ clips.

I couldn’t watch the whole thing. Embarrassing for all of us...and hopefully him too. Enough that I’d hope he uses the fee to buy some lessons; and ask for a refund if already taking them.

We shouldn’t try to think up excuses to justify why it was crap.

I agree, it seems like more time was spent getting a nice uniform than actually practicing and preparing. It sounds like a very nervous beginner piper.
Where is Eric Rigler when you need him?
Sadly, I'm sure I will see this video about a hundred times in the next week or so from people sending it to me.. :(

Sounds like an unstable chanter reed to me. Maybe it was chipped inside the chanter?

I couldn’t watch the whole thing either. That was brutal.

Well, clearly,at the least,..an unstable ...and inexperienced player ..who,imo,had no business ,albeit huge brass,to accept such an august high profile assignment, PM chevron notwithstanding.
The mil kit and kilt colors suggest to me an in-state (?) para-affiliation. Sad.
