Piping in the Park

This isn't a joke but something that recently happened. I went to a local park to play and when I arrived it was FILLED with people. May have just been coincidence, but after about 15 minutes the place was pretty much completely empty.

Maybe they all rushed off to get their own pipes and drums to get you into a massed bands situation??:(

On the other hand... if the squirrels and birds
begin to gather 'round... then perhaps you have
hit upon something!! :)

All I know is that when I begin my piobaireachd in the churchyard I use for practice, the pigeons line up on the roof ridgeline facing me and settle in wing-to-wing. I always get the mental picture of a group of judges, sitting and waiting for the competition to begin.

I used to live pretty rural. Was playing at an abandoned cemetery way out in the country a few years ago. Not a soul in sight. Played a couple of tunes, then Hubby started laughing. Turned around, and there must have been 50 cows lined up at the fence, and more running down out of the hills... Does that mean I'm now a "Cow Whisperer?" :roflmao:

I had the same experience once. The cows seemed to appear out of nowhere!

Greetings to All,

I would have also included a second quote... about the
pigeons lining up upon the wire... when John Blunt played...
had I the I.T. facility for such... but and alas... I am still
rather like a monkey with a cello... when it comes to such...
so I can but mention the pigeons here...

There is a rather wonderful old story (pub. 1920s?) by
Frank Stockton... entitled "Old Pipes and the Dryad"...
that brings these... and such things... into clearer view...

When we play outside... and perhaps even the more so...
when it is just as a single piper... we oft times can never
know... nor can it be gainsaid... what effect... the pipes
may have... upon any being... that may hear them.

Our forest friends... or some small child who may hear the
playing at a distance... and then some dozen or two years
later... again hear the playing... and know that that sound is
the one that they want to learn... how to make!!

And so... The Music... still progresses... "As the Old Chariot
Rolls Along"...

Regards... and Happy Piping... to All... :)
