His Grand daughter Denise Peters contacted me about more information and photos of him. In searching the net she found my Warpipe website. I was not able to be of much help to her as most Info I had is either on the website or she already knew about.

Re: PM Alex Peters (Royal Irish Fusiliers) RIP

I remember reading an article by David Murray in the Piping Times in which he wrote that at the formation of the Royal Irish Rangers in 1968, there was a dispute about whether the new regiment should adopt the standard three-drone Highland pipe, or continue to use the two-drone Irish war-pipe. To settle the dispute, an extremely senior officer (a general?) decided he would have both types played in front of him, and pick one. Alex Peters played the standard Highland pipe, which the officer pronounced to much the better, far more sonorous, etc. The problem was that Peters told people afterwards that one of his tenor drones had stopped, either when he blew up, or shortly after he began playing!
