Older people lived in a period where the class system was "defined". So those with ink were associated with sailors, bikers, criminals, lady's of the night, etc. I get the same reaction with this age...

The original "horsehair" sporran I have is comprised of three hair layers; human, horse and goat (top layer to bottom layer). Picture after cleaning and about 25-30% hair loss over the years.

I bought a WW1 military sporran....... a very good one for more than a few dollars!

Took dish washer detergent to remove the more than 90 years of camp fire smoke and grease. The period correct...

If you have not already done so, I would recommend professional musician ear plugs. Protect your hearing and you can clearly hear yourself play with the band. Might take a bit of getting used to but...

I noticed the start of tinnitus about a decade ago. When it was perfectly quiet...... midnight out camping in the wilderness...... I could hear a faint low pitch.

Started piping a few years ago...

I have full dress #1 which I have worn at Remembrance Day ceremonies. It was expensive to pull together.... and can be uncomfortable in less than cool weather as others have noted (wearing 16 oz.)

Up North....The one band I was formerly in did have the "music" for O Canada on hand but avoided playing it. It was not pleasant to play or hear.

We would default to "The Maple Leaf Forever"...

FMM medley was great.....but my heart was with the Inveraray medley. Bob's comments after the performance... also praised their performance . Judges had a tough one with these two bands..... :)
