Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

Funny how so many newish chanters come on the market yet in quick time fade into obscurity...the Lee Naills, the Gandy this, the Gael that, oh here's the latest Hardie or Henderson.. Infinity is just...

Re: Kilts and proper kilts, Oy vey ist meir....

I despise that we are expected to wear what is essentially a costume to play an instrument..I do it because it's a well paying gig most of the time and the public expects it, however, it seems that...

Re: Early Henderson bore sizes

That wood has most likely moved all over the place and/or were not bored accurately from the get go..choking off the drone reeds from playing smoothly and causing all manner of drone reeds to...

Re: New 6/8 March: 1,000 Hours

Well done...especially like parts 3 and 4....very Donald MacLeod ish in style. 6/8s are my favorite...I wish they were substituted for the ghastly 2/4s in the MSR competitions.

Re: "B" Flat Set up

It would be interesting if a G1 band came in at a markedly lower pitch...and won...what would the other bands do the following year?..would they lower their pitch in response?..are they all just...

Re: "B" Flat Set up

Quote/I should have worded it better. I'm not asking why.. I'm asking why now. The band pitch has been at and above 480 for the last 15 years just about.

It's because the top bands and their PM's...

Re: Anyone know these pipes, wood? Maker?

You have to realize that if you post here asking for opinions on what you have, particularly if you invoke the name of a quality maker such as Naill, even in a roundabout way, then you are asking for...

Re: Anyone know these pipes, wood? Maker?

Understood..it wasn't made clear when that conversation took place...if he wouldn't tell you why he believes that to be true or who the turner was then that's a red flag as to their provenance.....

Re: Anyone know these pipes, wood? Maker?

Exactly...lots of Pakistani sets can be made to sound decent with a good set of reeds..you can get lucky..I have a set myself that are not bad at all...but anyone who turned for Naill would not have...

Re: Blair Digital Bagpipes - Update

Sounds fantastic...the time when this sort of thing is incorporated into a real set of Pipes is not far off...with an attached, quality speaker..mark my words.

Re: David Naill solo blackwood chanters - Any good?

I've also found the ABW Naill to be overly sensitive to temperature change..the wood needs to be warmed up to reach peak efficiency..doesn't like cold temps and will sound flat as can be when played...

Re: David Naill solo blackwood chanters - Any good?

The Naill poly band chanter is a bit of an outlier...only knew of one band that played them and they have since moved on from them..still a good chanter but can be finicky to reed up as are the solo...
