Re: What does the EUSPBA do?

A mission statement is meant to distinguish the main purpose of an organization as it would be different from one formed for profit. Often times they are broad and meant to be able to stretch as the...

Re: Canmore Hybrid bags

Hasn't Canmore re-done their bags: new shape and hybrid material? I doubt they resemble the bags they came out with originally.

Re: What does the EUSPBA do?

Some associations are always looking for volunteers - committees, donations, expertise, membership, board of directors.

Re: What does the EUSPBA do?

Maybe more specifically, the mission of Pipe Band Associations surrounds the art of competitive piping (band, solo, piping, drumming, drum majoring). The art is of course much larger than just...

Re: What does the EUSPBA do?

Associations provide a framework for competitions, rules for fair competitions, sanction events so competitions are the same within an association, provide a judging framework, make sure judges are...

Re: Tone Protector vrs. Pipers Pal

Would the chamber size make a difference in terms of mold growth? And weather it is vented (with or without a stick).

A bridal might help. A dental rubber band wrapped tight above the wrapping. Maybe...

Re: The Mental Game

That is a fantastic question. What is the difference between technique development and the mental aspect. Is there a disconnect between average teaching styles and what one really needs to improve?...

Re: Breath size

As I understand it, yes. A full breath and blowing the bag completely full again and then keep going (diaphragm blowing). A quick inhale and then a long blow again.

Re: Morrill Bagpipes?

I got to listen and play a set at the WUSPBA AGM. Great looking with a lot of the natural wood grain patterns on display. They sounded great. I think each set is custom.

Re: Pipe Band Research

That map might have been at Pipe-Band.com or some such. It looks to be shut down but it had a great list and highland games too. There was a thread on this site - I wonder if the owner might still...

Re: Health of Pipe Bands? Competitive & Performance Bands

Does it match the aging and interest in the local St. Andrews Society?

Re: Why Logan's Tutor

I think the Pipers Dojo also has an approach. I haven't looked at all of it, though.

Re: Old "paper clip trick" for cane drone reeds

I found it frustrating because it seemed i needed to adjust the clip at the beginning and later in a practice. It needed to stay in the reed, but took some adjustment regularly. Maybe i just didn't...

Re: Portable recording hardware and software

The PipeHacker website has a good setup discussion. I don't remember the specifics, but it is all spelled out and the recordings there are good.

Re: Steady pressure and repurposing equipment.

I like the water manometer. They sell one at the Pipers Dojo and it can be used for steadiness training as well as a visual guide for calibration of reeds.

Re: Boyle's Law and Bag Size

I think big bags were a fad. Seems these days better-fit is more important. So if you don't feel right or comfortable with a big bag, find a better fitting one.

Re: Does a new chanter reed need to "break in"?

If you break in a reed, i think it only gets a little easier. So i bet it is best to get a reed fairly close to your comfort level of strength.
After it breaks in, hopefully it is more consistent...

Re: Can't hear my pipes

If I understand, it sounds like you are doing well. You don't want to be identifiable in the band. So if you can hear yourself, then so can the PM and an audience or judge and you are not blending....

Re: Bagpipe Chanter Reeds Issues.

Wild guess - could the tuner have been reading the next note up? Then the tape brought it back to reading a high pitch of the actual note?

Re: Rubber bands

I think placing a band just above the wrapping can help stabilize a reed that is acting inconsistent. It also makes the low notes sharper (and the whole reed sharper and easier).

Re: David Naill Pipes

Great set of pipes. The only I have ever owned...so I don't have anything to compare against. I have played many different drone reeds and chanters successfully.
