Re: Iluminator run
I like the ghostly outline of the pipes, from the passing lights reflecting off the ferrules... now if you coulda worn one of those glow in the dark skeleton costumes...

Re: Wimps, Unite!
You can absolutely get good projection and tone from an "easy" reed - I play at around 26-28". My PM recently tried my pipes and was impressed with how efficient and comfortable they were, and also...

Re: Kinnaird Edge vs. Evolution
Hi Gaidar -
I think I get what you mean. My pipes came with Kinnaird Evos, with the regular tongues, and I didn't have luck with them. They really don't want to be calibrated to an easy reed. ...

Re: Kilts and proper kilts, Oy vey ist meir....
I agree with Pip, I find a traditional wool kilt to be mostly comfortable in all weather conditions (some conditions just aren't comfortable no matter what you're wearing). I haven't tried any of...

Re: Getting back the saddle!
I got sore everything when I first started. Even got a bloody nose after blowing the pipe chanter for the first time! I had to build up very gradually. Some experienced pipers will tell you that...

Re: Suggestions for newer generation Technopipes
Mine has a setting for scale that can be changed to chromatic (which I don't really use), and it retains it's settings when I turn it off/on, so version 2 I believe. Also the fingering chart doesn't...

Re: eBay Scammer, BEWARE - Henderson pipes
I can be a little slow on the uptake sometimes... but I'm fascinated by scams and try to be aware of them, so I have to ask, how would the implied scam work, exactly? Someone copied pictures from...

Re: "B" Flat Set up
I wish some Bb contests would be held, either for bands, or for an invitational open level solo comp. Would probably also sound a little more accessible to non-pipers.
I think one issue is that...

Re: Leather Pipe Bag Tie-in Issue
I did my first tie-in several months ago, with the close guidance of a very experienced piper. It was a sheep bag, no pre-cut holes. We traced the holes and cut them out with a razor blade (or...

Re: "B" Flat Set up
Wanted to ask on this thread since it already has so much good info -
I was thinking of getting a Bb chanter - in addition to the ones mentioned already (G1, Shepherd, McCallum), has anyone tried...

Re: Balance Tone Drone Reeds
That was one of my issues with them. They made noise with very little air in the bag. (I had the same problem with Kinnairds, just btw). Strike ins were very easy, though I had to rapidly inflate...

Re: Drone Volume in Old Recordings
I don't think the drones are too loud .. maybe there's echo because it's indoors? Probably would have sounded different in the open air. Maybe also the cane reeds are set a bit open, to reduce the...

Re: Flat High G
Thanks for the replies -
Yes, hot and humid here.
I know to set a tuner to just intonation, and this is obvious enough to tell by ear.
I thought maybe I damaged or mishandled the reed...

Flat High G
I have a flat High G on my solo chanter - wooden Dunbar Elite I (about 472-475hz). It's a Husk reed. The reed is seated pretty deep and snug, and there is a little bit of tape on most of the notes,...

Re: Your 2019 setup?
I enjoy these threads.
New for me this year is a Begg sheep bag. I was skeptical that it would benefit someone of my level (grade 4 solo, grade 5 band), but I have to say I like it. I stop...

Re: 78 rpm
Did they not tune their drones back then? At all? The drones aren't even in tune with each other, never mind to the pitch of the chanter.
Plenty of pipers today play vintage pipes, cane reeds,...

Interesting.
I don't have an MG reed to compare to, but the screw from a Henderson Carbon fiber reed does not fit an Ezeedrone. If and EZee fits an MG though... I'm missing something. If I...

Re: Wygent drone reeds
Do these only fit MG drone reeds? I'm wondering if they would fit the tuning screw on a Henderson Deluxe reed.
Do they change the sound of the reed (other than merely lowering the pitch)? I...
