Re: Ridge or straight cut, which to you prefer?

You obviously aren't in a position to judge the quality of ridge cuts if you haven't played them in 40 years. The majority out there now are excellent and easily worked.

Re: Solo chanter

The McC2 is a great chanter, but with the pitch increase in solos in the last few years, more people are favoring models that are a bit higher pitched, 480-485.

Re: Gandy Cut Bag

It's closer to the Canmore Hybrid medium in size. Both are great bags.

Re: Suggestions for solo march tune with "fat" low gs

I'd do 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd (for the Low G )

Re: Forum activity levels

Perhaps we've reached the point in history when most people would rather play their pipes/drums than talk about them

Re: Forum activity levels

Yup, Facebook mostly. I noticed there were much fewer posts like you mentioned and actually checked the member numbers vs who has posted in the last couple years. I'd say less than 10% are still...

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

Well, they may not 'worry' about it, but they're aware that they should be pitching in the 480 ballpark.

Re: Stock problem

Just tape in it. Wider electrical or plumbers tape works well. It may be airtight, but not likely secure. That grommet receives a lot of stress from angling the blowpipe towards the mouth, so ensure...

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

Yeah, it was pitching at almost 490 at the Glenfiddich. Yikes. Top hand was thin sounding, but I guess it's inevitable with the rise in pitch overall now.

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

Might be the throat of the chanter that is wonky if you can't get a proper scale. Drying and warping over time may have caused it. Is Teddy Krogh up your way? Perhaps he could look at it.

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

I'm not sure, but no one pitched below 480 at the Glenfiddich. The pitch increase is apparent and it's the new norm, at least at the higher levels. I'm not a big fan of 485+, but I wouldn't want to...

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

I agree, they're probably the most consistent out of the box reeds I've found. Are they loud? Yup. Are they strong? Yup. But after a bit of shaving, they are so bright and stable. Now where are my...

Re: Glenfiddich pipes and chanter makes?

MacPhee reeds usually are sharper in the Naill, but you'll likely have to try a few and select the sharper reeds, blow them in and see where they pitch after a few weeks. I had to carve Low G, Low A,...

Re: Ezeedrone Bass, strike in issue.

Try the inverted bass. The Increased Absorption bass is inverted and (I find) better tonally than the regular inverted bass.

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

I picked one up last week and it's sounding great with a Shepherd reed. Bold, but not overpowering and a nice blend with the drones. The holes are smaller (on average) and with the sanding/polishing,...

Re: Hardie Infinity chanters

We're definitely spoiled as pipers with a plethora of great piping products. If they aren't so great, they don't survive on the retail market and are either revised or disappear completely. I think...

Re: Canmore Hybrid bags

No, not at all. I used a thicker artificial waxed sinew and it worked well. I suggest using the 'star' method for tying in, as you have some material to secure as you're tying. I'm not playing it...
