Rule of thumb is the reed will drop about 2” h2o strength and steady off after a bit of playing ..several tunes/sets ( and in my own experience) ...so you’ll want to know the reed strength after...

Is there a metal cap with an ‘ ivory’ bushing? There is ( on my ‘70’s Hardie FS pipes) a tight fit wood disc holding the Bush in place which also seals the top of the bell...under the decorative...

I’ve never broken a chanter in my 5 decades at pipes. When I cracked this one it made a barely audible crinkling sound.... like light cellophane being gently rumpled.... it was quizzical ,...but...

I have good success with a G 1 platinum reed in my silver soled ‘03 Naill. Gorgeous.
Even better after I slightly twist cracked it and had it expertly repaired.
