Re: Question from a piper

Tom makes an excellent point about so called 'easier' lower grade tunes, those long notes are problematic and not just for the LD to arrange scores for, but having to do it in the knowledge that...

Hi Paul, if I could offer this on the background of interpreting pipe band snare drumming notation, a wee bit long but for those interested…

Re: The Hills of Argyll (Pipe Tune)

Hello there Kilwinning Piper, I know you meant to say "Campbeltown" don't you hate spell check changing your words because it doesn't recognize something.

Anyway, for your talk on the composer...

Re: Worlds Results 2017

Jim, unless you know something I don't about the World's results, this is the Bob Dunsire forum, not a WUSPBA site, or any other pipe band association site. Here we just share news of results, yes...

Re: Chips

Close but not exactly Scotdrummer, but glad you got the source correct, it was indeed the big man himself who christened the accented notes in the piano line (first time thru' the part) "the chips"...

Re: Cambuslang Pipe Band

Heatherbelle, I don't think Alex would have been in the Cambuslang PB but he may have been in the 'Cambusnethan' PB as a boy or perhaps his first 'official' pipe band the Craigneuk Parish Church...

Re: Drummers 1938

Come on lads, take a look at this film from the 30's it just might be the big man himself when he was only a boy? Drew would know if it's his Dad Alex and his Granddad John? If it is, WOW, perhaps...

Re: Pipes and drums 1938 - recognize them?

Callum could be right, the more I look at it, perhaps the young lad is older than 9 or 10, maybe 12? Which would put it in the right time frame!

What you say is true Callum about us boys back...

Re: Pipes and drums 1938 - recognize them?

Whereas that maybe true Jim, but I'm talking about their body language as they march. Digitally remastering certainly removes the white blotches and or any graininess and some camera-man shakiness...

Re: Pipes and drums 1938 - recognize them?

Oh yea Callum, I've watch it a few times, that's why I thought it might be Alex as a boy, because you can see the pipers in the background enjoying this young fella playing with maybe his 'Dad" ? The...

Re: Pipes and drums 1938 - recognize them?

Heatherbelle, I don't want to get ahead of myself here, but the more I look at the footage, I'm getting an eerie feeling about it, that stern look from the young lad as he stares straight at the...

Re: Pipes and drums 1938 - recognize them?

Thank you Heatherbelle, this footage is interesting from both a piping and a drumming point of view.

For drummers it shows a very early pre-war rod-tension snare drum with what looks like mylar...

Re: 1984 Worlds Program

Thanks Scatch, I've seen it on hand written scores both ways so always wondered about that. it's a reasonable assumption given that you're more likely to see the Roe among the heather. btw I didn't...

Re: 1984 Worlds Program

Hello Gilbert, you mention B/Cal's tune at the start of their '84 medley wasn't the "Streaker" I thought it was, maybe it became the Streaker a year or two after. If you have the music I'm sure...

Re: Robert The Bruce

Steve, you haven't looked closely enough at Bruce's face! That is, if you're referring to the national monument at Bannockburn, I can speak with some degree of knowledge about that.

In 2014 The...

Re: Odd notation of 3/4 tunes, etc.

Oh no, been aware of that for nigh on 40 years! Trouble is, it's the pipers that are slow to accept. We drummers are the accompanist, so we gotta go with what you do, right or wrong :) The great...
