If 50’s ...the mounts would be orange; the OP mentioned the pipes were bought only 30 yrs ago...the age of non yellowing plastics on pipes.

‘Original’ Kinnaird reed...might the tongue be either the ‘easy’ or ‘hard(er)’...whichever not just right for you. Easy to change the tongue.

IMHO....Change to a easy-Medium Shepherd standard reed. Ca 27-28” h2o strength. Pipers Hut. OH. Ask to have it checked by manometer for strength.

If you get them....make sure the retailer confirms they are the right ( same) width leather as on the kilt. I assume moving the buckles is not an option.

The Mccallum mk3 bench design spec is 484-486cps....10 cents higher than its mk2 predecessor. I’ve found it possible to set the mk3 lower to match up with mk2...not sure/doubtful about the other...

Yes...One would think. I carefully compared multiple popular brand Bb reeds to the standard reed and found virtually no diff in overall length, staple diameter, blade length or binding height. ...

Another good choice I sometimes use...but still the other 90+%. The shepherds are more soldier proof.

Shepherd standard reeds in our mk2 chanters. 475 pitch. Solid ....for almost 20 years. There might be others..but if it ain’t broke...

No internet and Korg tuners back then ....whatever ‘good ear’ was available was “local’....but each locale had its own tonemeister. ..so when / if different locales met up it was more likely somewhat...
