Re: Is Your Main Chanter ABW or Polypenco?

ABW 95% of the time, plastic chanter only really for pub sessions where the probability of the chanter being broken is higher.

Do I worry about it, and moisture? Nah, only if it's affecting the...

Re: Is it worth my while to get smallpipes?

I know, Kevin, there are some fantastic small pipe instruments that sound lovely. I did say some wouldn't agree (after all it'd be boring if we all did), I suppose to explain a little.
The GHB is...

Re: Idea for G1 band MSRs

Very interesting indeed. I have to admit, I'm surprised at the number of marches.

The reels and straths not so much, be interesting to see if, throughout the years tune have become 'in vogue' or a...

Re: Idea for G1 band MSRs

Yeah that is a serious challenge. Watching the Glenfiddich, you can see the mental strength it takes and I can imagine how it plays on your mind as you get near the end
'you've gotten...

Re: 2020 setup?

Yeah I believe that's the case Re:Xtreme development. They go so well in the Naills. I absolutely love the bass reed, and find (for me at least) that the tenors, while not the brightest, provide a...

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

Wow, what difference. There is a much better balance there, for such a small adjustment! A significant improvement to my ear, bass frequencies are now present and adding their weight, but still...

Re: 2020 setup?

My 2020 set-up is the same as my 2019 set up.......Well, I think it is? Have to open the pipe box to see! Been really struggling with motivation this year, no comps = no accountability!

Pipes -...

Re: Tuning-Middle Tenor First?

If you can do that, I think there is real skill in it. Difficult to do. I can't do it that's for sure anyway

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

The clip highlighted above sounds great too. I the drone balance is nice, I can't tell from my listening device but maybe slightly bassier? This might be due to the reeds? I find eezedrone tenor...

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

Well, sir, I'm late to this party!

From my listening equipment I couldn't detect much difference in tone (only got a laptop speaker), main difference was in tenor volume.

Recording 1 was very...

Re: Is it worth my while to get smallpipes?

I'd go for A. Much easier for you to play along with others in the future if you choose to.

Also, you'll have to choose bellows or mouth blown

Re: Idea for G1 band MSRs

I must be alone in loving the MSR competitions.

Yes, they have a narrow repertoire. I wonder if this is just a reflection of
A) Technical ability required per tune i.e. not enough top end...

Re: Is it worth my while to get smallpipes?

There is no substitute for playing the 'big' pipes. Either the physical aspect, or the fingering.
To me at least, the pipe chanter is a unique beast, and time must be spent on it in order to...
