Re: Bagpipe Supplier in St. Louis Metro?

I'll dig around my stuff. I've acquired them from students over the years. I use other materials when I teach.
Just a matter of finding one.

Re: Bagpipe Supplier in St. Louis Metro?

We had a dealer. She focused on pipes/reeds/pieces and parts.
I'm sure she would have sold the Green Book/etc., but likely special order. You might be able to find it in the occasional traditional...

Re: A piper's eye

How about piper's ear.
I hear something...music in a bar, grocery store, background noise on the TV, or a general high-ish pitched whine that's somewhere between 460 and 480 and my head whips...

Re: Worlds - filling and test their bags

Oh...I dont think it was a gimmick at all. Not for their caliber. I just wonder about it in extreme sun/heat. And in the hands of a lower grade band. Under perfect conditions there's so much we can...

Re: Worlds - filling and test their bags

I don't think it's uncommon or new. Sunny weather at the Worlds is uncommon. Maybe a few extra folks maybe doing it because of that?

How about that Mylar tho?

Not gonna lie. I see a lot of...

Re: Are replica pipes comparable to the original?

It's a great question that I've often wondered about. On the other hand, I think I never wondered all that much since I'm with EquusRacer on this.

I think all sets of pipes are a bit of a...

Another Paradigm Shift in Pipe Banding

If you ask me, this ranks right up there with synthetic drone reeds and the c natural in terms of paradigm shifts in the pipe banding world.

Re: Thick People

I once got asked to play a moderately obscure 4/4 pipe tune for a wedding.
xxth Highlanders
Or something to that effect. But it wasn't one of the "standards"
Wasn't even in Scots Guards. But I...

Re: Need opinions on a GHB first set

Everything Jack said.

Plus, I'll add, get the model you envision on your shoulder when you close your eyes.

What I mean is, if you a desperate to have full imitation silver, get the one with...

Re: A Thank You for the community and companies that we have

And let's not forget the composers who are extremely generous with their IP. It's never cost more than a few pennies for me to legally and morally obtain or perform, and even record (for...

Re: Top 5 List

I like these.

Totally down with these...IF...you have a competent pipe/drum corps, in terms of following the beat. And even then, it can always be better.

I'm really fortunate to have the...

Re: Looking to identify pipes

Lovely. Looks like someone correctly identified the maker above.
Judging by the shop tools in the back, I'm guessing you made the mounting rig. You probably paid an appropriate amount for them as I...

Re: Thank you

I wasn't a part of it when they did it. The key takeaway is you're not "tax free", you're just a non-profit and not responsible for paying income taxes unless you generate revenue beyond whatever the...

Re: Pipes, A Serious Commitment…The Grumbles of a Newbie

I hear ya a bit on this.
On the money side, it's the market. Scarcity and demand.
I'm sure a decent alpenhorn costs as much or more than pipes. If as many people played bagpipes as cornet, we could...

Re: Well-known pipers who play easy reeds?

They aren't "old man reeds", I call them "Gentleman's Reeds" and I have started to appreciate them a bit more after 35 years of playing.

In all seriousness, absolutely if I played alone I would...

Re: Adult contemporary music w/bagpipes

I dig your friend's music. Right up my alley.
AC is a bit of a mislabel. I'd go with "singer songwriter"....it sounds cooler. :thumb:

Re: Wedding malfunction, YouTube

Being that this video has been posted again, I will again offer my..."defense" of the guy. And bear in mind, I note this in relative terms. There's a wide range of abilities out there. In the US, the...

Runrig calling it quits

Like 'em or hate 'em, they're ending after 45 years. With their roots going back to a dance-band type group to an outright "rock group" (still with some roots), they're part of my life soundtrack and...

Re: I need some quick blowstick help...

I hear ya....I don't take it as snide. I can give you two reasons, be they valid or not.

1. The ability to make a 'micro adjustment'. For those rare, but not unheard of days when your chanter is...

Re: St. Thomas Episcopal?

According to an email from the MWPBA, there have been bands impacted. Some have lost practice halls, etc.
Not sure how bad, but the MWPBA is collecting and promising further details.......

Re: Boyle's Law and Bag Size

I subscribe to all this.
It has to be comfortable and manageable or you have no shot. Full stop.

But...again...maybe my theory is wrong here....

What if you could play a bag comfortably that...

Re: I need some quick blowstick help...

I have the retaining clip....it's the rim that failed. I'll be able to fix it at some point....I just don't have the time or energy at the moment. And....since I have the money, I figured I'd just...

Re: I need some quick blowstick help...

I just saw that they are replacement valve flappers...so I'm assuming it comes with it's own valve integrated in some way. Does that seem about right?

I need some quick blowstick help...

I know they can be...

Ross Ainslie at Ironman 70.3

Everybody catch the video of Ross Ainslie stopping halfway through the run in the inaugural Edinburgh Ironman 70.3?
For the uninitiated and the metrically challenged, that's a 1.2 mile swim, a 56...
