Re: Tanning sheep

I tanned a deer skin using the brain method. Got the instructions from one of the Foxfire books. There are just enough brains in a deer to tan one deer hide. Had to soak the hide some. Used a bone...

Re: Piper's Bonnet Case ideas?

You could get a little creative with it. Glue some fabric around it, maybe your tartan. Put your band logo on the top and bottom. Just keep it away from the bass drummer.

When I first started learning in the early 70's everyone wanted Hardie drones with a Henderson chanter. I have a 1970's Hardie set with a Hardie chanter and a Henderson Both sound great with them....

Re: Army Issue?

I was in the 9th Infantry Division until Feb. 1970 and know of no pipe bands. Would have saved me from having to go to Scotland to learn the pipes after getting out.

Re: Blowpipe resonates

I'm guessing that it's your flapper that is making the noise. If you put your tongue to stop air coming out of the top of the blowpipe, the noise probably stops.
Try wetting it. Use a little water,...

Re: Leaky bellows valve

I put mine on with the smooth side down. The back side of a spoon can aed getting a good fit by rubbing it over the surface. A little Vaseline applied to the edge surface may help it seal better....

It's a good thing you do make your own pc reeds John and that nothing bad happened to your chanter.
