Re: Remove shine from your Prince Chas lapels

This may not be the same issue, but I thought I'd mention - I've had issues with satin lapels discoloring as they age, especially with all the sunlight exposure while performing. I'd looked for...

Re: Third time..crash and burn

An idea: practice "performing" by going to a park or field where folks may be, and play. It gives you the experience of playing for folks without the added pressure of them having an expectation, or...

Re: A real bitey blower

Biting can occur from excessive tension due to a hard setup as well- you might see if easing up your reed and making drones as air-efficient as possible would help.

You may have already done...

Possible CITES changes

I saw the following posted on a guitar forum (guitars having CITES concerns with rosewood):

Re: piping after a hernia operation

Our pipe major brought a set of electronic pipes to practice after he had a hernia operation, if I recall. Perhaps you could 'keep your skills up' on an electric chanter?

Re: Colonel boogey

My first pipe major claimed that as his pipe band approached a hospital zone in a parade, they stopped piping and whistled the "Colonel Bogey" march (much as in The Bridge over the River Kwai), until...

Re: Piper & Drummer Piobaireachd Commissions (2001)

piper13,
I dug out my copy of P&D, August 2001 (I keep way too much stuff!), and there are the published versions of

1) Father and Son, by Neil Dickie, pg 35
2) Last of the Big Trees, by Michael...

Re: Reeds for High B?

Just curious if anyone has a recording of a tune with High B on the GHB to share? The one time I tried it, I could get a high B, but the pressure increase needed was so great, the following note(s)...

Re: Grrrr. Pipe failure at memorial service!

Another part of the 'gig kit' is a rubber stopper for a drone, in my vest pocket. I've never had to use it (!) but I know there's a cricket out there, just waiting to crawl into my drones the first...

Re: Grrrr. Pipe failure at memorial service!

I actually carry a 2nd blowpipe (Airstream) just in case. I've had a break in the plastic just before a gig and was able to go to the car and replace it in time. -) So it''s become part of my gig...

Unusual uses for bagpipes

I ran into an unexpected use of bagpipes, in a book I'm reading: "The Big Break", a non-fiction book about a WW2 escape by 250 Americans from German custody. At the end of WW2, the Germans were...

Re: Blowing Bubbles

Just a thought since things changed recently - check your bag/joints for airtightness. Even though you're using only 1 drone, if the bag is leaking, it may be causing you more work than needed to...

Pleasanton weather?

How were conditions at Pleasanton this past weekend? Predictions seemed to be for very high temperatures; I hope folks were able to deal with the temps while piping/drumming?

I play a nice modern set of pipes, now about 20 years old (purchased new). I perform at a lot of gigs, usually in Southern CA (USA) sunlight. Oddly, the...

Thanks for all the replies! A local tailor gave an estimate of about $200 (over the phone, without seeing the jacket) to replace...
