Re: Oldest Pipe Bands

Coincidentally Mike, I'm working on getting old photos of the band recreated - the old photo albums were lost (spirited away as no one could remember who had them years ago), and hopefully have them...

Re: You play like a girl!

I'll dredge this one up out of the past :)...

I picked team roping (USTRC and ACTRA)as an equal as women are currently competing on an equal footing.

Both the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys...

Re: No respect!

Our son (Grade 3 drummer), was way beyond the rudimentary snare level in middle school, which allowed the band teacher to use him in all other percussive instruments that hadn't been used in a while....

Re: You play like a girl!

Team Roping - check the results for either United States Team Roping Championships, many times women are at the top, not just the guys. https://www.ustrc.com/Home/. It's a skill sport, so they're on...

Re: Judging flourishing routines in band competitions

A little late to the party here - It may be because all sections of the band are scored on the auditory aspect, not the visual.

If you look at the transition the tenor position has taken in the...

Re: Measuring for new kilt

For instance, I am 5'9" and wear a 26' length kilt. One kiltmaker I know says that height shouldn't be taken into consideration as we are all built differently. I have a 36" inseam, and my 6'5"...

Re: Wearing male uniforms :(

Dorothy - was your "custom made" kilt made for you originally? Your fix still ends up with a lot of excess material around your dainty waist... I think that's part of the original posters...

Re: A true sadist

Most pipe bands play gigs on St. Patrick's Day because we get paid well - we are not judging :smokin:

Re: Weekend Snare Drum Tenor Workshop Instructors

Our band has found that it is worth every penny to bring someone in to work with the corps - you can iron out an amazing amount of things with a weekend workshop.

Re: Oh NO! There is a heat wave in the UK!!

Spokane Highland Games can be brutal. The year it was 106F (41.1C) was awful. The poor beer tent boys were so confused when I would go in and just lay my arms in the icy beer tubs. We blew two...

Re: Wearing male uniforms :(

So, speaking of kilts made for women - we have a great kiltmaker we've been lucky to use who lives in California. If you would like her contact information, message me and I'll share. She's makes...

Re: Wearing male uniforms :(

We get that, that's why this is the ladies room and they can share their frustrations.

Your suggestion of looking for a child's kilt would be equally frustrating - most kids are built like a...

Maybe we're reading your post incorrectly but it appears that you believe their complaints are invalid because men come in many shapes and sizes?

Re: Best inexpensive kilt?

Re: pipe band pith helmets 1982

My dad's biggest complaint about pith helmets was that his bass drone smacked the side all the time. His band hasn't worn them since I was a kid. He still has his though.

Re: Stretching brogues

The shoe stretch spray you can commercially find has alcohol in it - so same theory applies to wearing the alcohol soaked socks. I go with the 1/2 size larger and add running shoe insoles.
